AIKE-DELLARCO 艾可画廊

艾可画廊很荣幸宣布， 由汪建伟策划的秦思源个展《也可以是》即将在9月4日和9月5日陆续开幕。

《也可以是》将有一个核心因素连接两个不同的场地:艾可画廊与Art-Ba-Ba流动空间。秦思源收集了北京、上海两地很多著名艺术家的废画，用来作为展览作品的材料。这些废画是艺术家们不满意的，而且永远不会用来作展览的作品，但都纪录了每位艺术家与画布之间的纠结与斗争。这个项目分别在两个场地用不同的想法来挖掘这些曾经的斗争 。

为了9月4日开幕的Art-Ba-Ba流动空间展览，秦思源借用了1863年巴黎传奇的《落选者沙龙》的概念，当时展出的包括爱德华.马奈等受到官方沙龙拒绝的艺术家作品 。不同的是，《也可以是》出现的作品是被艺术家本人拒绝的，并被"策展人"选上参加一次特别的展览。然而，这不是一次展览而是一件艺术作品，因此这些被拒的画作不是艺术品，而是用来创作装置的现成品。秦思源探讨了艺术品与展览之间的微妙区别，对应的是他身兼艺术家和策展人的双重身份。

在9月5日开幕的艾可画廊个展，秦思源将针对每一张废画的物理特性创作新的混合作品。被切开的画作，仅仅让画布覆盖底下的画框，把这些二维的图像转化成不同的物理结构。被切开的画布碎片，将与艺术家工作室地板上收集到的废弃材料组合，在原来的图像上建立全新的叙述。秦思源的这些新作品呈现的形式感故意的抹去艺术家们原先的意图。与在Art-Ba-Ba流动空间的展览另一个区别是画廊特定的商业性质强调了艺术家和新作品的身份。

秦思源生活并工作于北京，是一位艺术家和策展人。2009年和2010年担任上海当代艺博会总监，在那之前担任北京尤伦斯当代艺术中心的首席策展人和副馆长。作为一名艺术家，秦思源共同创建了联合现场计划（2005－06年），一个参加过中国和美国很多重要展览的艺术家小组，包括2005年的广州三年展。今年秋季，除了《也可以是》，秦思源的作品也会在上海香格纳的展览《编辑：图像强迫症》，以及第4届广州三年展里出现。

"It Might Also Be: Colin Chinnery"

 

AIKE-DELLARCO is pleased to announce the upcoming solo show of Beijing based artist Colin Siyuan Chinnery It Might Also Be, curated by Wang Jianwei.

It Might Also Be is one integrated project taking place across two different venues in Shanghai, opening at Art-Ba-Ba Mobile Space on 4 September, and at AIKE-DELLARCO on 5 September.

This exhibition project has one core factor uniting both venues; Chinnery has collected "failed paintings" by well-known artists in Beijing and Shanghai, and has used them as the material for his work. These failed paintings are works that artists are not satisfied with and were never intended to be shown, but instead represent the intense struggle between each artist and the canvas in front of them. It is this struggle that Chinnery is exploring in this project, using distinct concepts of articulation for each venue.

For his show at Art-Ba-Ba Mobile Space, Chinnery has perverted the concept behind the legendary "Salon des Refusés" exhibition of 1863 in Paris, where the works of artists such as Édouard Manet who were rejected by the official Paris Salon were exhibited to critical scorn. In contrast, the works to be shown here have been rejected by the artists themselves, and have been selected by the "curator" for a special exhibition. However, this is not an exhibition but an artwork, and consequently these rejected paintings are not artworks but readymade objects to be used in an installation. Chinnery is creating a subtle distinction between artwork and exhibition related to his own double identity as artist and curator.

At AIKE-DELLARCO, Chinnery is using the physical properties of each failed painting to create new hybrid objects. Paintings are cut up, leaving only the canvas covering the stretcher frame underneath, transforming these two-dimensional images into physical structures. The cut out canvas fragments have been combined with waste materials collected from artists' studio floors, playing with the images on the original canvases to make new narratives. The formal rigour of this show deliberately erases the traces of the original artists in order to find Chinnery's own visual ideas. In contrast to the show at Art-Ba-Ba Mobile Space, the commercial framework of the gallery confirms the identity of the artist and artworks.

Colin Siyuan Chinnery is an artist and curator based in Beijing. He was Director in 2009 and 2010 of ShContemporary Art Fair in Shanghai, and before that he was Chief Curator / Deputy Director at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) in Beijing. As an artist, Chinnery co-founded the Complete Art Experience Project (2005-6), an artists' collective whose works were presented in several important exhibitions in China and United States, including the 2005 Guangzhou Triennial. This fall, apart from this "It Might Also Be", Chinnery's work shall also be on view at ShanghART's show EDIT: Image Fetish and Phobia, and the 4th edition of Guangzhou Triennale.
