A collective body of young Sicilian artists lands on the shore of China: six emerging talents, all under thirty years old, all from Palermo and its surrounding areas. Belonging to the same geographical environment and sharing the same cultural milieu, with a common interest for drawing and painting, they treat the subject matter of the urban environment, of the city mapping and of the urban wandering.
Despite their stylistic and aesthetic differences, the works of Giuseppe Adamo, Giuseppe Buzzotta, Linda Randazzo, Vincenzo Schillaci, Giovanni Sortino, Vito Stassi, display some affinities in their approach to reality, in their ability to grasp the ambience and the peculiarities of a place, and the desires and curiosities of a generation.
While some of them have dedicated themselves mostly to painting, others have taken advantage of their artistic versatility, experimenting with videoart, installations, and photography. This exhibition chiefly focuses on pictorial language and on the potentiality of graphic sign and colors to chart urban space. This very urban space at once both the subject of the artists’ activity and its place of origin, the exhibition also serves to recognize the new artistic scene in Palermo: in so doing, it showcases the most promising, fresh, and new creative energies of the Palermo area to an international, rather than strictly local, audience.
The maps created for this Shanghai exhibition are examples of metaphorical, eccentric, even capricious reconstructions of an urban environment – that of Palermo and its surroundings – recomposed from a miriad of scattered fragments, each constituting a personal view of the numerous places that the artists have been visiting, observing, inhabiting, and imaging. The artists’ minds wander through urban spaces, sensitively capturing and committing to memory, faces, glimpses, and infinitesimal details arranged in a grand visual symphony. The mental, emotional, and conceptual charts they create redesign the borders of an imaginary and yet still concrete city, within which viewers are purposely disoriented. The canvases, the maps and a large installation of drawings, remodel the gallery space creating a vast, tridimensional, and cartographic area. In the eyes of these young artists, the city gets undone only to be reinvented according to unconventional standpoints that systematically banish the celebration of the genius loci, the iconographical recognizability, the picturesque dimension, and the identification of common topoi and symbolic forms. These artists embark on an off-shore, casual, yet original navigation, which is simultaneously an operation of rewriting and an adventure through the invisible tracks of urban landscape.

西西里新兴青年简历群展登陆上海。六位青年才俊因为共同的地域背景，相似的文化传统，和对绘画艺术的热爱而相会相赏，而他们创作的主题也都是城市、地图和行走其间的流浪者。
Giuseppe Adamo, Giuseppe Buzzotta, Linda Randazzo, Vincenzo Schillaci, Giovanni Sortino, Vito Stassi，他们游走在平行的轨迹上：尽管每个人风格各异，在审美上也不尽相仿，但他们的作品都彰显着相同的敏锐感触，相似的人生世界观；也焕发着他们记录每个地方特征的才能，写照自己当时心境的天赋；他们的艺术也同时代表着一代人的好奇和渴求。
群展中所选均为这些简历们的绘画作品：他们对当下的巴勒莫地区的细节有着入微的观察，以景象绘画的演绎，表达艺术企图：通过图像符号和通过对线条、色彩的布局来表现城市制图的全新内涵。这些年轻的简历试图表明，他们拥有最活跃和最新鲜的创造才力。
此次在上海展出的作品，恣意地勾勒了这样一个城市——巴勒莫——正如很多有着相似的背景的城市一样，充满隐喻、灵动诡谲、毫无规律——那无数熟悉的、陌生的、甚至是虚构的生活景观的主观意象的碎片，将被重组。人们各异的脸孔，城市的各个角落，以及其它各种各样的微妙细节，一起构成鸿篇巨作，从记忆和感情中婉转地诉说着这座永不停歇的城市的意义。在日常生活的地图中，人们时时确定目标，却不断迷失方向，行走出一个城市的轮廓，既是虚构的，也是真实的。
巴勒莫，在这些年轻简历眼中喷薄、颠覆，他们抛开对于地点的客观描绘，抛开图像的可识别性和固有的外形，抛开传统的象征手法，重新定义。这个旅程偏离航道，主观肆意，漫无目的，正如一次沿着城市无形轨迹的内心探险。

Sbarca a Shangai una collettiva di giovani artisti siciliani emergenti, tutti attivi in area palermitana, tutti under trenta. Sei talenti emergenti, accomunati dall'appartenenza geografica, dal milieu culturale e dall'interesse per la pittura e il disegno, si confrontano col tema della città, della mappa e del vagabondaggio urbano.
Giuseppe Adamo, Giuseppe Buzzotta, Linda Randazzo, Vincenzo Schillaci, Giovanni Sortino, Vito Stassi si muovono su binari in qualche modo paralleli: pur nella specificità stilistica ed estetica che definisce i percorsi di ognuno, i protagonisti di Fuori rotta palesano sensibilità affini, approcci al reale spesso convergenti e la capacità di registrare gli umori del presente, i caratteri specifici di un luogo, le istanze e le curiosità di una generazione.
Se alcuni di loro hanno maggiormente sviluppato la pratica della pittura, altri hanno fatto della versatilità un punto di forza, cimentandosi anche col video, l'installazione, la fotografia. E' però sul linguaggio specificamente pittorico che la mostra sceglie di concentrarsi: l'idea di scandagliare il tema della cartografia urbana attraverso il segno grafico e la tessitura di linee e superfici cromatiche, si trasforma nella possibilità di operare una parziale ricognizione della nuovissima scena pittorica palermitana, provando a raccontare a una platea internazionale le energie creative più fresche e promettenti che stanno attraversando il territorio.
E sono, quelli progettate per Shangai, degli esempi di cartografie metaforiche, eccentriche, indisciplinate, ricostruzioni personali e intimiste di una città – Palermo, ma anche qualsiasi città del proprio background – che viene ri-composta attraverso miriadi di frammenti sparsi, tasselli di un'immagine in soggettiva dei molti luoghi vissuti, metabolizzati, abitati e immaginati. Volti, scorci, dettagli infinitesimali si strutturano in una grande partitura visiva che dà il senso dell'erranza urbana mediata dalla memoria e dal sentimento. Mappe del quotidiano con cui dis-orientarsi, per riscrivere i contorni di una città immaginaria ma al contempo concreta.
La città, vista dagli occhi di questi giovani artisti, esplode e si reinventa, definendosi attraverso percorsi inconsueti che escludono la celebrazione del genius loci, la riconoscibilità iconografica, la dimensione del pittoresco, l'identificazione di topoi e forme simboliche. E' dunque una navigazione fuori rotta, a orientare questa operazione di riscrittura, concepita come un'avventura interiore condotta lungo tracciati invisibili del paesaggio urbano.
