Grass Hope
Om Soorya
GALLERIA DELL'ARCO, Shanghai
Opening 28th February 2009, Saturday 6 p.m.
Revolving Boundaries, the artist-in-residence program promoted and sponsored by Galleria dell’Arco in Italy and in China, continues, featuring a show by the Indian artist Om Soorya, entitled Grass Hope.
The program is as follows: each year, two foreign artists will spend a period of study in Shanghai and two Chinese artists will instead be hosted by the Italian Gallery. At the end of the in-residence program, each artist will show the result of their site-specific work of art with strong ties to the host territory.
After Domenico Mangano’s residency in China and its resulting exhibit Don’t disturb the growing grass, the project now moves to India. Om Soorya’s artistic research investigates the modes of perception of the urban geography and its impressive changes. His personal aesthetic code, articulated through recurring symbols, highlights the tensions and contradictions underlying the dramatic development of modern India.
Om Soorya (Kerala, 1977), is an emerging Indian artist active on the international art scene for more than two years. In 2007, at The Guild Art USA Inc. of New York he presented his solo-show Random mirrors in the city of villagers. That same yea, he participated in the group-show Recent Works, hosted by Nature Morte, in New Delhi. In 2008, he joined the collective show Effetto Stalker by Galleria dell’Arco in Palermo, Italy.
In 2007 Om Soorya was awarded Emerging Indian artist of the year by the Foundation for Indian Contmeporary Art.

Om Soorya (Kerala,1977)2007年在纽约的The Guild Art USA Inc举办了他的个展Random mirrors in the city of villagers,同一年他还参与了新德里的Nature Morte群展。

Om Soorya (Kerala, 1977) ha tenuto nel 2007 la personale Random mirrors in the city of villagers presso The Guild Art di New York.
